Course Title: Cable Systems

Pre Course Qualifications: The course covers working on National Grids High and Low voltage cables and their accessories Candidates should ideally be Competent Persons and hold BESC for Substations (Safety Rules and NSI 6 & 8) and the relevant practical knowledge, training and experience to work on cable systems.

The 2014 issue 1 which replaces the 2005 issue 5 now addresses some of the issues that I had identified in my RA for the my last cable repair carried out under the old NSI5. In addition there is now a section on impressed voltages. (Appendix 2). To cover Appendix 2 I will deliver Section 2 of my Impressed Voltage course as this goes into more detail of the dangers present caused by impressed voltages.

Objectives: To enable safe and effective work processes in compliance with National Grids safety instruction NSI 5.

To understand the role and responsibilities of a Competent Person within National Grids environment.

On completion of the training the candidates will have received sufficient information, instruction and guidance to understand and manage the Dangers that could occur.

The candidate will partake in an assessment to confirm his/her knowledge and understanding. Pass mark 80%
